The amount of $2332.24 ($2320.24 service + $12.57) was paid to the Animal Emergency & Specialty Center in Parker CO was paid them fully on $4/16/2013 in 2 payments ($1,000 good faith payment on 4/12 and balance $1332.24 on 4/16/13). Charges incurred related strictly to the care required for Bumble, the veterinarians did not charge any fee for their time involved. The original quote from the service provider to us was not to exceed $3,000.

As far as the care/treatment for Bumble to be provided by Dr. Fry the foster home's veterinarian of record. We have not received a bill or have paid any amount to date toward such care. Dr Fry advised the foster home his bill for treatment would not exceed $1800. As soon as we have paid the remaining bill for her care we will provide an update.

Please note we advised donors that any amount of the $4800 goal that was not needed to cover Bumble's care related to the coyote attack was be used for other homeless veterans' pets that may require veterinary care being fostered or will be fostered through our Foster Home program. These expenditures are paid via the MPA fund.

With the exception of one service provider, the veterinarians and boarding facilities we have interacted with in regards to needed vet care and boarding have provided some type of discount (which usually covered the vet fees), only required payment toward half of the total bill, and boarding facilities depending on situation may not charge for the pet, offer a specific discount percentage, or only charges again for half of the total cost. Each case is negotiated by our organization on a case by case basis.

This is the first time since the fund was established in 2008 that we had to do a special donor plea for a specific homeless veteran's beloved pet. As we are an ALL volunteer 501c3 Military & Veteran Service Organization we are totally dependent on Direct Public Support, Indirect Public Support, and in-kind donations.

From the MPA fund we primarily cover the veterinarian related expenses involving spay/neuter, bring the pet up to date on shots, micro-chipping, Heartworm testing, and at least 6 months of Heartworm/Flea/Tick meds prior to the beloved pet being placed into one of our approved foster homes.

If we don't have an available foster home we may also cover boarding expenses up to 14 days in there cases where a pet has to be placed somewhere immediately (veteran pet owner has been rushed to the emergency room and no one to care for pet immediately).

Overall to date the expenses involved paid from the MPA fund averages (1) $200-$400 per pet related to vet care and (2) $150 to $350 for boarding up to 14 days per pet. Usually the foster home covers the food and treats which usually such expenses can be taken as a contribution on their personal tax return if they itemize deductions. If they can't then for homeless vets' pets we cover the food/treats also until they begin receiving some income. Course during the foster term we will continue covering any needed vet care via the MPA fund.

No funds from the MPA are paid directly to the military/veteran legal pet owner and foster homes are only reimbursed after receipt of copies of the receipts showing the items purchased for the pet or pets in their care.

Since this organization began to operate in 2005 any and all donations received are allocated to a specific purpose where the donor earmarks the donation for a specific program/purpose or if not earmarked then we allocate the donation where needed the most. How funds received are allocated have been defined on our website at the following link:

Sincerely hope this answer's your question and any other concerns.

The generosity of our supporters has been fantastic! Our sincere thanks and appreciation to those who were able to contribute in helping to cover Bumble's veterinary care. Bumble is recovering slowly but steadily and doing good.

As of April 25, 2013 we reached our goal and raised $4,807. Thank you!

It's May 20th..any news? Regarding this in the story: "Bumble’s vet care expenses at this point is anticipated to be around $4800" WOW !!! How much of that is medicine and how much of that is doctor fees and board? I asked this question a month ago on April 23, 2013 and someone posted there would be a breakdown posted shortly, but no one followed through. Did the clinic, doctors and staff donate their time and expertise to keep the costs to a minimum?
I'm hesitant to send money when I don't know if I'm being scammed. I'd love to help...but... how do we know ???
